Few Applaud 50 on his "New Look"

So we've all seen actors drop or gain weight for roles but I don't believe there has been anything as drastic as 50 Cent's 30 pound weight loss. 50 dropped the weight by going on a liquid diet and working out everyday for his role in "Things Fall Apart" a film about a cancer stricken football player. I do agree with the press that the change looks almost sickening but I also believe it shows his passion for the film. The only thing that has me on edge is people mistaking passion for talent. Wendy Williams applauded his passion but mistakenly said that he was a great actor for his loss, literally. She proclaimed that he should get an Oscar for it. If that's the case, so should the Subway guy. He does alot more acting than 50 Cent ever has. I don't believe agreeing to look like a muskrat is good acting. I'd rather wait for the movie to come to theatres (or OnDemand) to judge his acting and I definitely won't be saying "Oh my he lost so much weight, he needs an Oscar." I'm not hating on 50 at all, I just don't like when artists are mistakenly applauded for what isn't art. I am curious to see how he gains his weight back and if his body will ever be the same. But I can tell that he's definitely going for the sick and distraught look.
Everyone else should leave 50 alone and let him earn his money. By the way, 50 is one of the producers of the movie. Hand clap to him for getting his foot in the film world. If you haven't seen the dramatic change in 50's appearance, pictures are below.

This video has been highly anticipated amongst the pop world and now it's here! I'm still not quite sure of what the concept of the video has to do with the song. It does a lot of showing GaGa's crotch in the beginning possibly to end rumors of an extra piece of artillery on her part. In the beginning I was like WTF, but it does turn into a nice story even if it has nothing to do with ignoring phone calls in the club. This video had great production and even greater costumes along with some heavyweight actors.

You can't go wrong with Gaga and Beyonce anyhow.

$57 Million Raised for Haiti

The "Hope For Haiti Now" telethon has calculated $57 million in donations. The money was raised by phone, text, and web. The fundraiser's CD is the biggest one day pre-order featuring the No. 1 song on itunes, "Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour) by Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono, and the Edge.

People can donate via text, phone or through the "Hope for Haiti" Web site for the next six months. Among the organizations who will receive funds from the telethon include Oxfam America, UNICEF, and the Clinton-Bush Haiti Foundation.

Even though the above artists are friends of mine I have to give an unbiased review. Swagg Up Gang is predominantly ran by an artist who goes by Donye. This release features members Trane Spitta, Yung J.R., and Rukis. Who says southern hip hop can't be lyrical? Definitely not these guys. Great example of not letting your beats outshine the lyrical substance. I've been a fan of Donye for his catchy hooks but I was impressed mostly by his lyrics on this joint. Great local mixtape that could actually go somewhere nationally. However the last few tracks didn't seem up to par with the rest of the work. Just being real. Great potential in Swagg Up Gang. Enemy of the State: A Love Story was released by Lupe Fiasco on November 25th. This mixtape is evidence that 21 to 30 tracks doesn't determine the value of a product. This mixtape has 12 tracks with 3 skits and it is still better than some mixtapes I've heard this year. It is lyrically relevant and intelligent. Lupe is successful in saying more in a 54 second song than others with 3 whole minutes. I'm not putting any mixtapes down, but I'm definitely promoting this one. If you want some real lyrical content that you can understand and that makes sense you'll love this. Kudos to Lupe for heightening the anticipation for Lasers, his upcoming album, atleast 10 times more.

So I got to see an advanced screening of Precious last night, the new Tyler Perry and Oprah movie. It has the comedy of a Tyler Perry movie and the theme of adversity of a film of Oprah's production. The two teaming together for this film was a success. Precious' trailer is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, but to actually sit in the theater and be drawn into the life of this young teenager is enough to bring anyone to tears.

Precious is based on the Sapphire novel Push and set in Harlem 1987. Claireece "Precious" Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) is a young teenage girl who is in an abusive home with her mother and pregnant with her second child by her absent father. Dealing with a lack of resources, education, and her mother's poisonous attitude towards life, Precious somehow finds light through all of the darkness in her life.

Mo'nique who plays Precious' abusive mother gives a riveting and breath taking performance. Her cold attitude was just enough to pull off the angry woman in each scene she was in. Precious finds light and a friend in her new teacher Ms. Rain played by Paula Patton, wife of Robin Thicke.

In the end, Precious is given the opportunity to get out of her situation and make a new day for herself and her children. She chooses an education for a better life. She becomes self determined to leave her life of powerlessness and pain.

This movie brought me to tears and I encourage all who are looking to be inspired to go see this film. It is a film powerful beyond belief and can not be missed. Precious has only been released in select theaters but should be in all theaters nationwide by November 20th.

You've probably heard J. Cole on the last verse of Jay-Z's "Star is Born" which appeared on the Blueprint 3. Cole's feature on the album let's listeners know that he's not just a mixtape artist and there is a debut album coming soon especially seeing that he was the only fairly new artist out of the features with an actual verse, sharing light with Young Jeezy and Kanye West. That's a privelage not even Drake or Kid Cudi can brag about.
He anticipates a debut album in spring of 2010, but he's already planning to drop another mixtape with 22 tracks sometime before the album which says it all with the title "The Next Up." Mr. Cole is not a force to be reckoned with and definitely will be hard to ignore with Jay-Z backing him.

So I know I posted the video of Kanye West's outburst during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech on the VMA's, but in no way do I condone Kanye's behavior. It was funny for the moment but when I saw Taylor's face I could tell how hurt she really was. Everyone, including me, made jokes about it on Twitter, but that level of rudeness is never acceptable. Even Beyonce had to come out and show that she didn't condone it. I would say Beyonce's move at the end of the show was a great PR (public relations) strategy but it was also sincere. Kanye wouldn't have done that at any other awards show, and I feel like his ego is getting the best of him. He's acting like the sore loser that you never wanted to play with in your second grade class. I just wanted to take the time out to say that all of my comments towards the event were all in good fun. What Kanye did was tasteless and I am all about class. Beyonce on the other handled the situation like a true lady. I think Kanye just has a lot of growing up to do.

No One Cares About 50 Cent Anymore?!?!

I love her for this!!!

No, I'm not hating on anyone and I don't think Wendy means to either. There are just some things that the majority of a medium know. 50 Cent's relevancy in the music business as far as recording and releasing his own music is becoming non-existent. I am a "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" fan and I'm sure the real hip hop heads that enjoyed the fresh and new 50 Cent are falling off the bandwagon (if they are even still on). I believe his first album was the stepping stone to him becoming the great and successful businessman that he his now.However, the recording artist side should be kept to himself. He's a man and can do what he wants, and should be able to have his hobbies. However, if that hobby is rapping I suggest he doesn't release any of it unless he's absolutely sure it won't let fans down.
As far as the new A-team movie, I think with the right make up 50 could pull it off. However Ice Cube probably would do a better job.

What better to call a young man from Nashville that's well beyond his years and even farther from his peers than Future. Everything from his style to his musical presence screams futuristic. When I say futuristic I don't mean loud clothes and even louder hair. I'm talking about how a song can show you where Hip Hop is going yet remembering the essence of where it's been. Born Harold Simmons, Future's sound is full of energy leaving listeners wanting more. I remember the first time I saw Future about two years ago performing with his band, Biscuits and Gravy. Comparable to The Roots their sound along with Future stage presence definitely deserved more than the title of a "local" band. The band has shared stages with DJ Jazzy Jeff, drummer Lil John Roberts, The Nappy Roots, and Kanye West. Now those are some big names for teenagers out of Nashville.
Alone Future has released two mixtapes, "Clean Cut Mixtape Vol. 1" and "Foreplay: The Mixtape." It was the "Foreplay" that introduced me to how lyrically skilled Future was. With his latest project, "The Sci Fly EP," I can hear how he has matured as an artist. Rapping, singing, and producing gives Future all the tools to become a powerhouse in Hip Hop. He boldly dives into the style of Hip Hop some tend to overlook and makes you listen by adding his own flavor to it. A true futuristic sound and one you will never forget. I want more of the Future.
